Having all your documents ready before starting the court marriage process ensures a smooth and quick registration. Below you'll find comprehensive checklists for both foreign nationals and Nepali citizens.
Pro Tip: Make multiple photocopies of all documents. The court typically requires 2-3 copies of each document.
Documents for Foreign Nationals
Complete checklist for foreigners marrying in Nepal (including mixed couples)
Valid Passport
Essential- Original passport with minimum 6 months validity
- Photocopies of all pages with stamps/visas
- Photocopy of bio-data page (2 copies)
Valid Nepal Visa
Essential- Tourist visa or other valid visa
- Must be valid on court appearance date
- Photocopy of visa page
Embassy NOC / Single Status Certificate
Essential- No Objection Certificate from your embassy
- Also called "Certificate of No Impediment"
- Must be translated into Nepali
- Original + 2 photocopies
Passport Size Photos
Essential- 4 recent passport-size photographs
- White background
- Formal attire recommended
Two Witnesses
Essential- Two adult witnesses required
- Must have valid ID (citizenship or passport)
- Must be present during court appearance
- Photocopies of their IDs
Proof of 15-Day Stay
Essential- Hotel registration records
- Entry stamp in passport showing 15+ days
- Accommodation receipts if available
Birth Certificate
If Required- May be required by some embassies
- Must be translated if not in English
- Apostille recommended
Divorce Decree
If Previously Married- Required if previously married
- Must be translated into Nepali
- Apostille required
- Original + certified copies

Nepali Citizenship Certificate
Essential- Original Citizenship (नागरिकता)
- 2 photocopies (front and back)
- Required for both bride and groom
Unmarried Certificate
Essential- अविवाहित प्रमाणित from Ward Office
- Must be recent (within 3 months)
- Required for both parties
- Original + 1 photocopy
Ward Recommendation Letter
Essential- सिफारिस पत्र from Ward Office
- Confirms residence in the ward
- May require proof of residence
Passport Size Photos
Essential- 4 recent passport-size photographs each
- White background
- Formal attire recommended
Two Witnesses
Essential- Two adult Nepali citizens as witnesses
- Original citizenship + photocopies
- Must be present during court appearance
Divorce Certificate
If Previously Married- Required if previously married
- Court-issued divorce decree
- Original + certified copies

Important Notes
Translation Requirements
All foreign documents must be translated into Nepali by a certified translator and notarized. We provide professional translation services as part of our packages.
Document Validity
Ensure all documents are current. Unmarried certificates should be issued within the last 3 months. Embassy NOCs may have specific validity periods.
Multiple Copies
